Apple compost “apple soil” has been completed2025/04 / 22-

2025/04/16

At Hoshino Onsen Tombo no Yu, we hold an "Apple Bath" every autumn. This year, we made "apple soil" by collecting apples floating in the bathtub. We will distribute the finished apple soil to those who use Tombo no Yu.

How apple soil is made

The apple soil was made by the staff of Tombo no Yu on the grounds of the Hoshino area. This is the fourth time they have made apple soil this year. It took about five months to complete the process by cutting the apples into small pieces, adding potting soil, and periodically adding water and mixing in air.

Free distribution to those using Tombo no Yu

We will give the completed apple soil to those who use Tombo-no-Yu. One bag contains approximately 1g. Please use it for home gardening. Quantities are limited, so it will end as soon as it runs out.

As a sustainable initiative

Ringoyu works with local farmers to use apples of various sizes that are not shipped for consumption. In addition, we plan to continue turning used apples into a form that can be used in home gardening, as we believe this is one form of sustainable consumption and production in the region. We will start distributing them on Earth Day (April 2025, 4) in the hope that it will encourage people to think about the environment and take action.
