The butterbur sprouts have finally started to appear in Karuizawa, and we can feel the full arrival of spring approaching. As the weather gets warmer, many people start taking care of their gardens and thinking about what to plant this year. We thought it would be great to hold a seminar on gardening for all of you, so we decided to hold a seminar on gardening.Hoshinoya KaruizawaWhen we discussed the idea with the staff who work as gardeners at the park, they gladly agreed to be the instructors, which made it possible for the event to take place.

This was the first time we held the event, but as soon as reservations began, we were fully booked. As a result, we quickly decided to hold a second event, but we apologize to customers who were unable to make a reservation. We were reminded of the high level of interest and concern that people living in Karuizawa have in gardening.

The day began with a lecture by Hoshinoya Karuizawa's gardener, Sekiguchi. He used slides and drawings to clearly explain the soil and vegetation of Karuizawa, interpreted from the history and climate of Karuizawa, what to do first to create a better garden, the state of Hoshinoya Karuizawa's gardens, the characteristics of plants and key points for their placement, etc.

Afterwards, there was a Q&A session, and we went outside to look at actual trees and plants, listened to their characteristics, and then we left, but we received many enthusiastic questions even after the session ended. Participants said that the seminar was helpful for their future gardening, that they felt relieved to be able to ask an expert about something that they had not been able to understand even after researching, and that it was interesting to hear about the garden problems of each participant.
