Come to Tombo no Yu for a New Year's visit with a shrine-like feeling

2025/12/28

Since ancient times, it has been said that on New Year's Day, the god of the year descends from high mountains with the first sunrise of the year, bringing health and happiness for the coming year. At Hoshino Onsen Tombo no Yu, kadomatsu decorations are erected to ensure that the god of the year does not get lost as he descends from Mount Asama, and shimekazari decorations are used to mark this sacred place, and prayers are made for protection throughout the year.

The first bath of the new year is called "Hatsuyu," and is a traditional Japanese custom of purifying the body and mind at the start of the year and praying for good health.

Hoshino Onsen Tombo no Yu will be selling "Tombo no Yu Onsen Fortune Telling," a limited-edition "First Bath Set," and "Hanamame Manju" in a limited-edition New Year's package to help you enjoy traditional Japanese New Year events and your first bath.

In front of the reception desk at Tombo no Yu, they sell "Tonbo no Yu Onsen Fortune Telling (300 yen)" which you can enjoy as if you were visiting a shrine. When you soak the fortune slip in the hot spring water in a wooden tub, a fortune related to the hot spring will slowly emerge.

The "First Bath Set (2,000 yen)" which includes a face towel with the Tombo no Yu logo and a hot spring fortune slip, and the "Hanamame Manju (from 240 yen)" in a New Year's limited edition package will both be sold in limited quantities.
