The forests of Karuizawa are gradually changing into their autumn attire.
Leaves turning red and yellow, nuts of various shapes, and traces of animals left in the forest—for children, the autumn forest is a place where they can encounter many "what is that?" questions.
In the forest, children can think for themselves and share discoveries with their parents. Autumn in Karuizawa offers plenty of nature to stimulate children's curiosity. Picchio, located in the Karuizawa Hoshino area, will be hosting nature experience programs this autumn that can be enjoyed by children from elementary school age to preschool age.

~Perfect for your first nature experience~

"Explore! Our First Time in the Forest - Autumn," designed for children aged 3-6 and their guardians, is a recommended program for children who are experiencing nature for the first time.
Walking through the forest with a professional guide, you'll search for the "mysteries" around you, such as leaves, nuts, and traces of animal feeding.
See, hear, touch, and smell. While enjoying the forest using all five senses, parents and children can work together to unravel questions like, "Why is it shaped like this?" and "Why does it smell like this?" When small "what is that?" questions turn into "that's interesting!", the familiar forest might start to look a little different.

Elementary school students embark on an "adventure" in the forest.

"Picchio Children's Adventure Club Autumn" is a one-day nature experience program for elementary school students. The theme for autumn is "Adventure in the Forest! Explore the Autumn Animal Trails."
Using maps and compasses, we explore animal trails used by wild animals. We investigate how animals live by examining footprints, feeding traces, and other evidence left in the forest. We also peek into flying squirrel nest boxes with cameras, cook rice using bamboo tubes, and roast sweet potatoes over a campfire. We spend the day in nature, thinking and being resourceful with our companions.
Since children can participate on their own, adults can enjoy free time in the Karuizawa Hoshino area while their children enjoy their adventure in the forest.
