“Hoshino Community Base” enriches Karuizawa life

At Hoshino Community Base, we hold courses, workshops, and events with the theme of "enriching life in Karuizawa" for people living in Karuizawa and its surrounding areas.

Hoshino Community Base aims to become a place where participants can gain knowledge and information that will enrich their lives in Karuizawa, get active in nature, and before they know it, the number of familiar faces is increasing. That's what I'm aiming for.

The name "base" reflects our desire to be a base at the base of Mt. Asama, where people who love living in Karuizawa can form relaxed connections and communicate with each other. If there are any courses or events that interest you, please feel free to join us.

Learn from a gardener how to enjoy Karuizawa's gardens [March and April]

One of the joys of living in Karuizawa is appreciating the growth and changes of the plants in your garden every day. We held a gardening seminar for people who don't know where to start with gardening, people who haven't yet made the most of their garden, and people who want to make their garden better.

KIDS solo hot spring debut【January March】

Taking advantage of the restrictions on mixed bathing, we held a hot springs workshop to encourage children to become more independent. After learning proper etiquette in the classroom, the children tried bathing on their own under the supervision of staff. It was impressive to see how the children, who were nervous at first, showed confident expressions by the end.

Coffee Course: Learn the Differences in Taste - Advanced Level [May]

This class was taught by Maruyama Coffee staff on the terrace of Maruyama Coffee, where you can feel the nature and learn about the depth of coffee. We conveyed the depth of coffee by comparing the changes in taste caused by the storage conditions of the beans and the equipment, and the differences in characteristics depending on the country of origin and refining method.

Karuizawa Forest Piano "Forest Recital" and "Nice to Meet You Duet" [September]

We held a "Forest Recital" where we enjoyed playing music in nature. Nine participants, who were selected through a public call for applications, showed off the fruits of their daily practice. Although they were nervous at first, they soon relaxed as the audience gave them warm applause. It was a special day filled with a sense of unity.

First time skating experience [November]

A skating experience rooted in the climate of Karuizawa. Amid the autumn leaves, even beginners learned the basics, from how to fall and warm-up exercises, and got used to skating. Although nervous, they started skating using chairs for support, and by the end of the experience they had improved enough to skate without a chair. It was a heartwarming moment filled with smiles, with participants saying things like, "It was fun" and "I felt the beginning of winter."
