[Current job responsibilities and what I find rewarding about my work]

I'm Kurumi Kogai from the Operations Management Unit. I joined the company in April 2026, so it's been about four months now. Currently, I'm learning four tasks: room cleaning, front desk duties, dinner service, and dinner preparation.

As for what I find rewarding about my job, I've been able to do a lot more in four different tasks over the past four months, so my colleagues often ask me for help or say things like, "I can do this," and I can confidently say, "Yes, I can." This gives me a real sense of accomplishment, like we're all working together to achieve something, and that's what I find rewarding. Also, because we operate a resort for a company, we have many customers who come every year, and when I serve them, they often say things like, "I remember your face, so I'll see you again next year," which makes me feel like my service was worthwhile, and it motivates me to want to increase the number of customers who feel that way about me.

[Things I felt after actually working there]

Before joining the company, I initially assumed that it would be difficult to voice opinions or express observations after only four months of employment. However, since joining Hoshino Resorts, I've found that it's an environment where it's easy to voice observations or suggest improvements. I've really come to appreciate the atmosphere of respecting the content of what is said, regardless of who says it.

For example, in our guests' rooms, we have tea and coffee, but we also have the same tea and coffee available in the lounge that everyone can use. Since we have many single rooms, guests don't often enjoy tea or coffee alone, but in the lounge, people often drink tea and chat together, so there's a difference in how quickly the tea and coffee are used up. The tea and coffee in the lounge is used up much faster, but the tea and coffee in the single rooms are hardly used at all and remain unused. When I consulted with a senior colleague about reducing the amount of tea and coffee in the guests' rooms, they said that just talking about it wouldn't get the message across, so we should conduct a one-month experiment, quantify the results, communicate them to everyone, and then put it into action. I felt that Hoshino Resorts is great because they are quick to take action.

How to spend your holidays

On my days off, I mainly go to Karuizawa because the nature there is truly beautiful, and although it gets quite hot in the summer, it's a bit cooler there, so I like to go outside and take walks while enjoying nature. There are also many stylish cafes where you can relax, so I like to just drop by and kill some time. I have a friend who is planning to visit sometime outside of summer, so I'm currently looking for good cafes to recommend to her.
